Sony World Photography Awards 2026

Following the shortlist placement in the Sony World Photography Awards 2026 (Open Competition, Motion), 'Chaos' was shown in the official exhibition at Somerset House, London, and at the Sony Imaging Gallery Ginza, Tokyo. The work is included in the SWPA Annual Book.

International Photography Awards 2026

'Calm within Chaos', a three-part series photographed in Svalbard, received an Honorable Mention at the International Photography Awards 2026. A second work, 'Ice Veins', was named Official Selection.

Axel Schmidtke is a fine art photographer based in Munich, working alongside an executive role in a global organisation. He photographs moments in which different states share the same frame. His work is held in private collections across Europe. In 2026, 'Chaos' was shortlisted at the Sony World Photography Awards and shown at Somerset House, London, and at the Sony Imaging Gallery Ginza, Tokyo; the series 'Calm within Chaos' received an Honorable Mention at the International Photography Awards.
