About
Axel Schmidtke | Fine Art Photography
„The strongest images don’t come from what happens. They come from recognising the exact moment when it will.”
There are two sides to my life.
One in an executive role within a global organisation, defined by decisions, complexity, and constant motion. The other by patience, solitude, and stillness.
Both require the same thing: recognising the exact moment when everything aligns.
I'm based in Munich. My work takes me to the edges of the world — and sometimes, to a lake forty minutes from home. The quality I look for exists in both.
What I photograph are moments when different states share the same frame.
Chaos and calm. Scale and intimacy. Force and quiet. I don't choose between them. I wait until both are present — and then I decide.
In an age where any image can be generated, what becomes rare is the real.
These moments are not constructed. They are observed, anticipated — and, if everything aligns, captured.
Other images are complete the moment you see them. These leave room for what you haven't felt yet.
My work is held in private collections across Europe — by collectors who are not looking for answers, but for images that stay.
